Actually, one of the goals is to realize you can’t.

You can’t control the thoughts that come to your mind any more than the clouds that show up in the sky.

But like the clouds, you can simply notice and observe them, watch them drift by. You don’t have to believe them, or attach any special authority to them just because they’re there.

In fact, as you let them drift by, you’ll notice other—sometimes completely contradictory—thoughts appear.

Meditation is the practice of taking a step back from our thoughts.

Inquiry takes it further to questioning them—evaluating for accuracy and usefulness.
