Frequently Asked Questions
About Coaching
What is coaching, and how is it different from therapy?
Coaching is a forward-focused partnership. We start from where you are and work toward where you want to go—clarifying values, identifying blockers, and building the mindset, strategy, and habits to get there.
Therapy focuses on healing the past: processing trauma, treating mental health conditions, and understanding how your history shapes you. Both are valuable, and they're not mutually exclusive—many of my clients are also in therapy, or have done therapy in the past.
If you're dealing with a mental health condition or unprocessed trauma that significantly impacts your daily functioning, I encourage you to work with a licensed therapist, and inform them of your interest in coaching as a complement, not a substitute.
What do you mean by transformational life coaching?
I help people going through life transitions to create a shift in how they see themselves.
Shifts in our thinking, followed by behavior change—this is how we are able to grow and develop personally.
Collectively, it’s how we evolve as a species.
I help people do this work intentionally.
I often start working with people in the midst of significant transitions—career shifts, relationship changes, identity crises. These times naturally challenge us, and cause disruption. We can leverage these transition periods as a catalyst for deep personal growth.
Who is a good candidate for coaching?
Coaching works best with people who are genuinely open to being challenged, willing to examine their own patterns, and ready to take action on what they discover.
How is your coaching different from other coaches?
I bring real-world context. I spent years leading tech teams and understand the demanding, fast-moving, ever-changing environment, and I know well how the pressures of work, home, and community converge to keep you spinning.
I combine coaching with consulting when it's useful. Pure coaching helps you find your own answers. While this process feels incredible and empowering, sometimes you just want someone experienced to tell you what they see.
I'm particularly committed to the people our systems tend to undervalue—caregivers re-entering the workforce, women navigating male-dominated industries, wise and mature professionals who've been told their experience doesn't count. I believe it does, and I know how to help them see it and communicate it.
Do you work with people outside of tech?
Yes! While my professional background is in tech and most clients are tech professionals and CS leaders, the core of what I do—helping people get clarity, build self-trust, and direct their own lives—applies across industries and roles.

Logistics
How long does coaching usually last?
It depends. Some clients come with a specific goal or transition and work with me for six months. Others are in it for longer—using coaching as an ongoing sounding board and growth practice as their career and life evolve.
What certifications do you hold?
I’m a Certified Professional Coach through the International Association of Recovery Coaches, hold a degree in Marriage, Family and Human Development from BYU, and obtained the Women in Leadership Certificate from The University of Utah David Eccles School of Business.
Do you ever meet in person?
Sometimes! I typically hold sessions via face-to-face Zoom calls, but if you’re in Salt Lake or Utah County, we may be able to arrange in-person meetings if it makes sense. Limited travel outside of Utah may also available. Let’s discuss!
