Vision, Trust, Milestones: What phase are you in?
Maybe you just know you need something to change. Or maybe you’re already beginning the next phase of your life, career, family, or relationship. Perhaps this is just how you do life—intentionally growing, always on the next path, and you’re feeling that tug in your next direction.
Whatever it is, the way forward is to get really specific about what needs to change, tackle your fears, and get busy.
Phase 1: Vision
Do you know what you want to be different in 6 months?
Have you stopped to get really clear on it? So clear you write it down?
How do you want your life to look different in 6 months?
How would you like to feel different?
How do you want to show up in the world that’s different than how you show up today?
Structurally, what changes do you want implemented?
Are you doing the same work as you are right now?
Do you feel you are adding your highest value in life right now, given your circumstances?
If not, can you say where you would like to direct more of your energy?
Phase 2: Trust
What’s keeping you from moving forward?
If you already have those answers, you’ve moved beyond Vision into Trust. This is where you work through all the fears needed in order to reach the vision you have for yourself:
What are you waiting on?
What are you trying to get perfect before acting?
Where are you letting yourself down?
Whose critical voice are you still listening to?
How are you rewriting those stories?
Why should you maybe just trust yourself?
Phase 3: Milestones
Are you ready to get serious about these goals?
If you can answer that last one with ease, you’ve moved onto Milestones. This is where the rubber meets the road, vision turns into action. You make things happen.
Make them achievable: Specific and measurable, tie them to your vision, and set deadlines.
Work backwards. Envision yourself as the person who has already achieved this vision. Ask that version of yourself: What did you have to do to get there?
Write everything out. Prioritize them. What’s first? Set a date.
Make a plan. Get your calendar. When are you going to work on these things? Block out the time.
Consider your barriers. What’s would keep you from accomplishing your milestones? Write them out. Make a contingency plan.
