Woman-friendly = Family-friendly: Why I left my last leadership position
It’s been over a year since I walked away from my beloved company of 6 years. Well, technically they fired me, but only after I told them I could no longer work for a company that was not woman-friendly.
Because woman-friendly = family-friendly = humanity-friendly.
After years of advocating for changes to certain troubling policies and procedures, showing how they disproportionately impacted women, demonstrating how they had driven away several candidates and team members, and warning we were on the brink of losing more if we didn’t look at and address the issues, they told me they understood that these policies made us broadly not considered woman-friendly, and were okay with losing women and others because of that.
I’ve had a year to reflect, and I’m still so at peace with my decision. I loved the people I worked with and the work we were doing. But I could no longer be a part of perpetuating the push for policies that take us back to times when women had fewer options for supporting their families.
