This is quite outrageous. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt wrote a book called "Empires of AI" immediately after award-winning journalist Karen Hao wrote the instant NYT bestseller "Empire of AI."
He said what she said . . . and added an S?
Is this the ultimate mansplain?
Hao's work was a key part of my coming to believe that we really do need to be involved as citizens, and not let them develop AI any faster than we can do so responsibly and ethically.
Shouldn't that be true of any technology? We don't skip safety precautions or bypass governance built for a reason just because we REALLY want it, or we believe the benefits are going to be SO amazing.
Yes we want the benefit from it as soon as we reasonably can. But I don't buy that we need to make it worse for people in the mean time to get there.
Plus, how long have they been feeding us that line?
Anyway, this behavior from this sort of character doesn't shock me, but I would be a little shocked if we don't at least call out Eric Schmidt for the outrageousness of his audacity.
I noticed that both authors were on The Diary Of A CEO. I shared Hao's interview several months ago, worth a listen: https://lnkd.in/ePFCJzhj
